Some reflections on the title, "Forward Motion":
Certainly important in music, it has also become a valuable tool for me in any endeavour and daily living as well.
Moving through life with deliberate intention, rather than drifting to and fro on the sea of events that cascades over us at times, allows us a measure of control by choosing what to focus on. It also draws in the learning and growth that come from exploring the challenges and vulnerabilities that arise from our choices. Forward motion can even be leveraged to break free when we find ourselves mired down with negative feelings - just move towards something different, even for a few moments, and you will unleash the potential energy of forward motion...
Wishing you forward motion, in music and life!
About the music:
A Love Song for Clarinet and Guitar (2:14) – Kevin Love
When we're in love, that heady, jazzy feeling makes us want to dance...
No Worries (1:44) – Kevin Love
I wrote this piece with my students in mind - from time to time they enjoy playing something light-hearted and contrasting to the typical Sor/Giuliani/Carulli regimen. And, in truth, if you have your guitar in your hands, how can you be worried?!
Morning Glory (1:52) – Robert Mayeur
From his collection "Explorations for Solo Guitar"; it is dedicated to his wife Dory.
Prelude No. 2 (4:13) – George Gershwin, arr. K. Love
One of three preludes for piano, this is Gershwin at his blues-y best.
Suite del Plata No. 1 (14:12) – Máximo Diego Pujol
Quintissential Argentinian music from this award-wining guitarist/composer.
Preludio (1:53)
Tango (3:28)
Milonga (4:54)
Murga (2:40)
Candombe (1:17)
Three Catalan Folk Songs (5:18) – Traditional, arr. K. Love
These traditional Catalan songs (El Testament D’Amelia, L’Hereu Riera, Canço Del Lladre) were arranged for solo guitar by the legendary Spanish guitarist Miguel Llobet. They appear here transcribed and arranged for clarinet and guitar.
El testament D’Amelia 2:07
L’Hereu Riera :59
Canço del Lladre 2:12
